Tamarisk Country Club - Rancho Mirage, CA
Today, The Coachella Valley boasts more golf courses per square mile than anywhere else on earth but in 1952, there was only two golf courses. Tamarisk Country Club was one of those two. Ben Hogan was the head professional and the membership included Hollywood A listers like Jack Benny, George Burns, and 4 out of the 5 Marx Brothers. Frank Sinatra would also own a home next to the 18th tee box, which is conveniently located off of Frank Sinatra Drive.
The course has hosted the Bob Hope Desert Classic 18 times and is regularly kept in tournament shape. For our round, we played on some of the the firmest and purest greens I have ever encountered. It's hard to describe what a pure 13 on the stimp-meter feels like, but it's glorious.
