A Day at Boston Golf Club with Megan Khang

There are more than a handful of amazing golf courses in the Boston area, but a visit to Boston Golf Club is hard to beat. With inspirations from the golf courses of the British Isles and Pine Valley, Gil Hanse has created one of the best golf courses in the state of Massachusetts. It is challenging, strategic and fun to play. For my purposes that morning, it is also very fun to photograph.

I was in town to capture the UKG event with Meghan Khang and I showed up early to capture the action on the course before the golf action began. Boston Golf Club did not disappoint.

The par 5 15th offers some of the best bunkering on the golf course.

“This is most picturesque hole I have ever built.” - Gil Hanse on the 6th hole.

According to Hanse, the 12th green site was “The most natural setting for a green we had out here.”

Boston Golf Club finishes with a strong uphill par 3.

The par 5 17th bathes in the morning light.

As part of her agreement with UKG, Megan has an allotted number of media days with her sponsor. The sponsor elects what they are looking to do that day and in this instance it was play some golf with some of UKG’s customers and partners. I would imagine that a lot of tour players are reluctant to spend a day with a bunch of mid level handicappers. However, Megan is as friendly as they come and she happily played several holes with each of UKG’s 8 foursomes.

6 Facts about Megan Khang

  • She’s a local. Born in nearby Brockton, Megan exudes Massachusetts pride.

  • She started playing golf at the age of 5.

  • Driver is her strength. She missed just two of the 14 fairways.

  • She played in the US Women’s Open at 14 years old.

  • Khang skipped out on college to turn pro. She has made over $6M since doing so.

  • Khang’s lone victory on the LPGA Tour came on her 191st pro start.

Megan’s appeal is obvious to those around her. She is straight forward, friendly and laughs a bunch as she strolls the fairways with complete strangers. Megan has been with UKG for a number of years and the relationship is an authentic one. After a few short conversations, you can tell that Megan genuinely wants her sponsors to feel like they are getting their money’s worth. It’s a refreshing attitude in a world filled with entitlement.

Most notably her game is relentlessly consistent. However, I didn’t get to see much of her chipping and bunker game because she didn’t miss a green. The putter was never far off and Megan made a handful of lengthy putts over the 18 holes. As far as tour pros go, Megan is one of the finest.
