The Boston area is exceptionally dense with high quality championship golf. Experiences like Myopia, The Country Club, Old Sandwich and Boston Golf Club dominate the wish lists of visiting golfers. All of this admiration for the top clubs in the area has left many worthy courses unrecognized. The Donald Ross designed, Concord Country Club is one of those under appreciated Boston Gems.
In July of 2025, I had the opportunity to photograph the golf course over several days before their upcoming renovation takes place.. The club has employed renowned architect Andrew Green to work on the course’s master plan and lead major improvements over the next few years. My photography is the final documentation before those efforts take hold. Please enjoy this photographic tour of Concord Country Club.
Hole #1 - Par 5 - 479 Yards
The opening hole at Concord Country Club benefits those that come warmed up and ready to play. Two good shots could set you up with an early look at eagle and dreams of a new course record. A creek fronting the green will make sure that sloppy play is penalized.
Hole #2 - Par 4 - 451 Yards
The second hole at Concord Country Club is Superintendent, Peter Rappaccio’s favorite hole on the property. When a man that spends his days tending to every inch of grass on the property speaks up, it is wise to listen. At 451 yards, the tee shot requires accuracy and distance. Only the bold will escape with a par here.
Hole #3 - Par 4 - 429 Yards
This dogleg left plays along the edge of the property and does a good job of settling the golfer into the round. Like many of the greens at Concord Country Club, the small raised and contoured green has plenty of slopes that will keep you interested.
Hole #4 - Par 4 - 451 Yards
Things start to rock and roll on the fourth hole. A good drive will set up a deliciously fun approach shot over a large chasm in the fairway. Those that come up short will face a dramatic uphill recovery shot. The landforms and elevation changes at Concord are what set this golf course apart from others. There are some hills on the first few holes, but the 4th hole is where they really start to make an impact.
Hole #5 - Par 4 - 430 Yards
When I first arrived on the 5th hole, I took a moment to look around and appreciate my surroundings. The view from the tee box is one of the best on the golf course. In addition to the scenery, the golf hole is also a joy to play. The undulating fairway spills down the hill and opens up to a receptive and picturesque green. A good drive sets up a chance at birdie and a wayward one will require some recovery skills. This rare combination of beauty, fun and challenge puts the 5th hole in contention for the very best golf hole at Concord Country Club.
Hole #6 - Par 3 - 199 Yards
After finishing up on the 5th, the golfer climbs a hill to find the tee shot for the downhill par 3 6th hole. It’s a dramatic view from the tee box but the golf shot is a relatively straight forward one. A well played long iron should find the large putting surface.
Hole #7 - Par 4 - 383 Yards
The 7th is another one of Concord’s finest. Playing through a corridor back towards the 5th green, the tee shot favors a slight fade and gives the golfer a bit of claustrophobia about finding the fairway. There is a creek that bisects the front half of the golf hole and runs down the right hand side. Once you have successfully navigated the tee shot, the golf hole turns into a lot of fun with a gorgeous approach.
Hole #8 - Par 4 - 374 Yards
If you were paying attention as you drove into the club, you would have noticed the 8th green. This medium length par 4 is well protected in by a.trio of bunkers and a swamp on the left hand side. The 8th is one of the shorter holes at Concord and it would be a great time to hang a birdie on the scorecard.
Hole #9 - Par 3 - 147 Yards
The shortest hole at Concord Country Club plays directly towards the swimming pool and the screams of joyous children can often be heard in the background. A crisp shot here will carry the pronounced false front and leave you with a good chance to finish the front nine with a birdie 2. An errant tee shot will be met with a challenging opportunity to save par.
Hole #10 - Par 4 - 405 Yards
The 10th hole starts off with a blind tee shot that spills down the fairway on this dogleg right. A pretty little fade from the tee will set up a nice look at the green. Andrew Green’s work will start on holes 10-12 and I am especially looking forward to seeing how these holes improve.
Hole #11 - Par 4 - 425 Yards
The 11th hole at Concord Country Club is another one of my personal favorites with tremendous potential. There are bunkers and trees both right and left here. A miss left is preferred, but the ardent golfer would be wise to pay attention to the pin location before selecting an angle of attack.
Hole #12 - Par 3 - 181 Yards
The 12th is a pretty straight forward par 3 that allows room for error everywhere but long and right. Several bunkers protect the front edges of the green, but a solid strike should lead to an easy 3.
Hole #13 - Par 4 - 352 Yards
A short walk down the hill and across the street and you will find the shortest par 4 at Concord Country Club. The golf hole feels nearly reachable from the tee box. However, most golfers will choose to lay up and find the putting surface with wedge. Only the truly bold will bomb driver and putt for eagle.
Hole #14 - Par 4 - 417 Yards
Like many of the holes at Concord Country Club, the 14th offers little frills but plenty of straightforward golf. A bunker guards the left side of the fairway and the green is well surrounded by sand with a slop running off the back of the putting surface. This one looks especially spectacular in the early morning light.
Hole #15 - Par 3 - 190 Yards
The ambiance goes up a notch once you step onto the par 3 15th hole. The pond in front of the tee box which is there only to catch the truly horrid tee shots. The especially grand false front will catch just about everything else. Even the photographs do a good job at depicting how this green slopes dramatically from left to right.
Hole #16 - Par 4 - 441 Yards
If you look closely, you can see my golf cart peaking out on the far right edge of the photograph. I hung out often here during my visit to Concord. This intersection of the 16th and 17th holes might be favorite portion of the golf course at Concord Country Club. The shared bunkering between the two makes for a splendid visual.
Hole #17 - Par 5 - 534 Yards
One of the best holes at Concord Country Club is also one of the most fun to photograph. The golfer is treated to a glorious view from the tee box with the 18th hole looming in the distance. The big hitters will have a chance at finding this green in two shots while a series of bunkers and long fescue protect the green.
Hole #18 - Par 4 - 415 Yards
The 18th hole plays back towards the clubhouse and gives the golfer plenty of room to find the fairway. With two grand bunkers fronting the elevated green, a committed shot is required to score on the 18th hole. After you finish up your business on the 18th, the only remaining tasks are to high five and hand shake your playing partners. A visit to the lounge may also be in order as most of the members at Concord Country Club are extremely fun to hang out with.
